A Move to Remember

Your AMTR Resource Hub

This is your AMTR Resource Hub. We made this for folks who like to look ahead, or to follow with us along your move journey. It may be hard to put your attention to the fine print on your move day, so this allows you to explore at your own pace.

1

Now you're booked

From today until the week of your move

  • We send you a link for a video walkthrough. Most videos are ten minutes or less, and it gives us a deeper context for your move.
  • We'll use your videos and any additional information to assess that your estimate is accurate. Any change in information can affect your estimate.
  • At any time, you inform us of any "building confirmations" that you've made: COI requirements, elevator reservations or move windows, scheduling conflicts
  • We confirm your information a few days out. You inform us of any pertinent details over the phone or via text.
  • The morning of your move, your crew texts you directly with an arrival window. The office is included in the same message thread in case you need support.

We will text you a link to LiveSwitch, our HIPAA compliant recording software of your space. From the link you can record right in your phone's browser. The link is only to your profile, and the video goes straight to us. We keep it on file so we have a record of how your items look prior to your move, and for the team to access to strategize your move.

Before You Start: Lights on, blinds open, and be prepared to pause if you have a garage, basement or storage locker. Start Outside: Show us where a truck could park, then walk to your door filming as you go. Distance and number of stairs are the most impactful factors to a hourly move estimate. _When Access Is Limited: We ask that you enlist the help with a friend if you are unable to access the space in general, or to move around the space while recording with ease.** Go room by room slowly, and talking the whole way — "this is going," "this stays," "this one's fragile." Open every closet, and ensure we see all storage spaces. We aren't here to judge, we're here to support.

Don't miss: under the beds, the top shelves, the balcony, the basement, and anything already boxed.

A Green Checkmark will confirm that you sent your video in. We will review this for your estimate as long as the team has at least three business days to review the video between submission and your move.

What You Pack:

  • We ask that you pack as much as you can into boxes. Boxes are a lot easier to move than loose items.
  • Please remove items from drawers of dressers and shelves of bookcases. Having furniture items cleared off for your movers allows them to start right away.

If you are in need of packing services, please let us know up to 7 days prior to your move date so that we can schedule a separate time to pack your items. If an emergency happens where the team might pack on the day of your move, let us know. We advise you to not wait till the night before to pack your space.

What We Pack

  • Plants Disclaimer: We will move plants, but we do not guarantee their livelihood. If you are nervous about moving your plants we advise other methods of moving them.
  • Speed Packs: "Speed Packs are usually large corrugated boxes for transporting awkward, or lightweight goods (like pillows and cushions). We use courier bins as our Speed Packs, as they are reusable and easy to maneuver. If you would like to ensure your objects are not transported in reusable totes, we advise you box items or request cardboard boxes on your move date.
  • Wardrobe Containers: If you'd like us to pack wardrobe containers let us know!

If we pack items into boxes on the day of your move, we will follow our packing rates with the state of Illinois. This requires removing a mover from your move to pack your items at a per box / per container rate. You will be purchasing a container and paying for the packing labor of the team member(s) packing your items

  • Food: You will need to transport your food, liquids, and perishables. For health and safety reasons we can not transport these items in our truck.
  • Trash: We can not move garbage bags of trash, or provide junk removal services. We suggest contacting Junk Relief, a neighboring company in our incubator.
  • Propane: We can not move propane or combustible materials.
  • Live Animals: We can not move fish, bearded dragons, cats, dogs, snakes, or other live animals.
  • Firearms: For the safety of the crew we have opted to not move any type of firearm, even if it is not loaded. Accidents happen, and this is a type of accident we want to avoid.
  • You! Unfortunately we can not allow people to ride in the cab of the truck. This is a strict insurance policy we must follow.

Hourly Contracts:

Moves within Cook and Collar Counties, or within a 50-mile radius are quoted at an hourly rate with a minimum of 2.5 hours. We charge based on the number of movers and number of trucks for each move.

We charge “overtime” for any weekday move after 4:30PM and before 8:00AM OR anytime on any weekend or holiday dates. Our Overtime Charge is only $10 per hour per person, and defined as “at request of the shipper (that’s you!), landlord or public ordinances.”

Weight-Rate Contracts:

Moves outside of a 50-mile radius, or outside of Cook and Collar Counties are evaluated at a weight-rate estimate. On the day of your move we will take the difference of “the weight of the loaded truck” - “the weight of the empty truck” to conclude the weight of your shipment, and match it to the rates listed in our tariff.

For Long-Haul moves, your shipment’s weight is used to calculate the charge of a per-stair / per-elevator rate. If there are any long-carries between the truck to your apartment door, or a requirement to have a shuttle when a full-size truck can’t reach the door, we will notify you.

110% Rule:

You are responsible for paying for your move up to 110% of your estimate (this includes the higher range of your estimate.) If the move was underquoted for any reason, you will be responsible to pay the remainder balance 30 days after your move date.

The week of

The last few days before we arrive

Communicating with the office is important to a smooth move. If you haven't talked with the office yet, it is always great to reach out.

A few things we need:

  • If you haven't sent in your video, please do! If you have sent in your video, but its more than 20 days old, or you weren't packed prior, it never hurts to send a new one in!
  • Confirm your Valuation selection if you have not done so already.
  • Complete your checklist in this next section.

The following items inform us of your move day needs:

Parking: Let us know where the truck goes on each location. If you need a parking permit, let us know now. Elevators: If you haven't informed us of any reservation windows, please do. Please keep in mind that if you are estimated for a 4 hour load window, we will not complete your move in a 2-hour elevator window. The office can help you strategize any reservation constraints. Schedule Appointments Outside Your Window. There is nothing tougher than hoping to make a service appointment in the middle of your move. Your move date is your move date, and we advise at least one person in your household be present during your move window.

Set aside items not going with us. Any of your items that are going with you in your car, or not going with our team at all, should be marked and set aside.

We pack boxes on the truck first, so ensure they are ready to go and that you are keeping boxes easily accessible for your team.

Empty the fridge and freezer prior to your move date. And unplug fridges, fridges and AC units the night before if possible. Only if we are moving them, of course!

Please take items that we do not cover with you, such as passports, medication, jewelry, or your contracts for your home.

Pets and Small Children are typically a concern of safety on the move. Please prepare a plan for your pets to be in a separate room, or transported safely without harm to the movers or yourself. Small children are also to be kept in mind, as we want to ensure your little ones are out of the danger zones of our team lifting.

If you select a declared valuation option on the day of your move, you will be expected to pay another "deposit" for the amount of valuation selected.

On the day of your move we will accept debit card, credit card, ACH or cash. It is typically easier for us to process payment digitally, which will occur through our CRM Chariot at the end of your move.

If you would like to tip your movers we advise paying by cash, or through the platform Chariot. As digital forms of payment are not accessible to all of our team members, it can be a bit tedious for our team to split tip payments via other methods. Chariot will prompt by percentage or custom options. Typically $50-100 per mover is recommended.

If someone else is paying on behalf of you, we ask that the person signing completes a credit card authorization form with us, to ensure that the payment is a legitimate payment.

If you are having an issue with payment please call the office. In the event of any errors in payment, the office does review Bill of Ladings the following week after each move, to ensure that all charges match our filed rates with the state.

Move day

From the knock on the door to the last box

Office Support: Depending on your move time frame, the office may not always be available via phone. We have office team members present between 9-5PM on weekdays, and some presence over the weekends. If it is an emergency, usually someone is on-call to support.

Arrival Window: Please bare in mind that your team will text you when they have a sense of an eta, and that you have an arrival window for your move day. Typically this is a 2-hour window (unless otherwise discussed) to allow your team to get to your location safely.

Morning Text: When your team lead texts you, it will typically be from our office or as they are leaving to head to your location. They will text you with the office in a group chat.

Prepare to Meet Your Team: Please be prepared to meet your team in either the alley or front, so that they can start your move with fewer delays.

Talk to Your CrewAs part of our team speaks Spanish, this is a tool you can use to communicate with them.

Once the team arrives, you will walkthrough your space one more time with your team. It's best to communicate items that are going, staying, and the items to be careful of.

You can also communicate if you would rather the team wrap certain items more carefully, or if there are items the team does not need to wrap at all. While there are some items we must always cover, such as bedding. fabric, or mattresses, you have the ability to determine wrapping if time or speed is a priority for you. This will require an additional note on your Bill of Lading.

Leader: Every crew has a lead. They manage the team, go over the contract with you, and they typically text you. If you need a decision made, ask for the lead and they will notify the team.

Driver: Depending on team formations, and number of trucks, you will have drivers present for your move. These are the folks who should be also notified of any parking or navigation concerns.

Movers: Your movers are able to navigate most client communications, and should also be communicated with. Movers may assist team leads with disassembly or assembly, packing boxes, or packing the truck. Our movers typically work in a assembly line fashion, as we find that to be the best strategy for energy and time.

New Hires: If you have a new hire on your move day, you may be charged for their time. This time is charged at a lower rate per hour than our regular movers. We charge this New Hire rate for their first 30 days, so even if you see their rate on your Bill of Lading, it does not always mean it's "someone's first day". We do this to create fair pricing for the time spent learning tactics and strategies to make your move a solid one!

If your crew takes a 15-minute break or 30-minute break you will not be charged for that time on your final bill of lading. It is typical to expect the team to stop for water, or food when a load takes longer than 3.5 hours.

We do keep the clock running for water breaks, or quick catches of breath. We find this appropriate and that our team typically respects the client's time when taking these types of breaks.

After the move

The days and weeks that follow

If all went well, we ask you leave us a five-star review on Google, Yelp, and Facebook. Word of mouth and reviews are powerful for small businesses, and we ask that you support us in this way.

If you have a friend who is moving soon, have them reach out to us at 773-219-3313 or fill out a form at amovetoremember.com.

People We TrustWe have a guide for referrals to clients, if you need a service provider post move.Official Claims FormIf you need to report a claim please do so at this link.

If you have a claim or dispute please notify the office. The team may capture photos, but you should capture your own photos and documentation for this claim.

All claims must be completed through the ticket system above. Per the rules of the Illinois Commerce Commission a claim does not constitute a reason to not pay your bill.

Valuation selections are important here. If your valuation selected was of the standard level of valuation or limited liability coverage, you may be only compensated by the weight of your shipment damaged, and not of the value of your items.

You must file a claim within 90 days from the date of delivery, or scheduled date of delivery, for loss or damages.

We must respond within 30 days after receipt of a claim for loss or damage or overcharge.

We must pay, decline, or make a written firm offer to be held open for 30 days to settle with the claimant within 120 days after receipt of the claim by the mover, unless agreed upon to an extension of time for a definite period.

If you have rented containers or blankets for your move, we anticipate a return of those items within 30 days. If we do not see a return of items that require a return date (based on your contract) you may be charged for the value of those items.

Rented container bins should be picked up, or returned to our office within 30 days of your move date. Your charges for those items will be charged in a lump sum of .30 cents per tote per day when returned in less than 30 days. If not returned, you will be charged automatically to the card we have on file for the bins kept by you.

Rented blankets, ratchet straps, or dollies should be returned within 30 days of your move. Our buy back program is specific to a limited time frame to ensure that we keep our inventory of supplies steady, and well documented.
